Press Release: (Peshawar) Dr. Tabish Ikram, a graduate of Khyber Medical College Peshawar, was conferred with the first Dr. Zakia Minhas best medical graduate award by Dosti Welfare Organization in collaboration with Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar. The award ceremony was held at KMU multipurpose hall. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, Registrar KMU grace the occasion as chief guest, whereas Prof. Dr. Jawad Ahmed, dean of Basic Medical Sciences, director IBMS Dr. Inayat Shah, director IHPE Dr. Brekhna Jamil, Irfan Khan representative of Dosti, faculty, administrative officers and a large number of students were also present at the occasion.
The award, worth 5,000 US$ was given to Dr. Tabish Ikram for his outstanding performance in academic, social, research, and co-curricular activities. It has been decided to give the best medical graduate of the province every academic year for which rules and regulations are being formulated by mutual consultation.
According to details, from next year, the Dosti Zakia Minhas Award of Excellence will be given to the best medical graduate of the province who has shown excellent overall performance in education as well as research, social services, and co-curricular activities. Applications for the award, which will be will be invited from aspiring students by 31st October of each year; an announcement of the selected candidate will be made on 15th December by Dosti. The award will be awarded on March 23, 2023.
Meanwhile, addressing the function, Registrar KMU Prof. Dr. Saleem Gandapur thanked Dosti and Dr. Munir Ahmad for this initiative while congratulating Dr. Tabish Ikram, and said that the medical services of Dr. Zakia Minhas for this province and the entire region are not hidden from anyone. He said that Dr. Zakia Minhas had dedicated her entire life to the service of suffering humanity and she continued this mission till her death. He further said that the award would keep the legacy of Dr. Minhas for years to come.
Prof. Saleem Gandapur said that the decision to award the best medical graduate in the name of Dr. Zakia Minhas, while acknowledging the services of Dr. Zakia Minhas, would also encourage young doctors. “Living nations remember their benefactors, and we are proud to be here today in recognition of the services of a renowned gynecologist and social figure of the province,” he said.
Irfan Khan read a message from Dr. Munir Ahmad, founder, of Dosti. “You know that you have chosen a profession that is imbued in service. You must remain true to your calling, putting service first, and I guarantee you will have a comfortable life. Try not to put money first. It is alright to give away free visits once or twice a day.
I wish you all the best. You are a national asset, the best asset of them all. Do not forget the nation
that has put you through such a high level of education for free. Such an education in the US would have
cost you close to 1/4 of a million dollars. You could have gotten a “student-loan with interest” which you would spend most of your life paying for. So, don’t forget this great place. Be grateful and consider a loan that must be paid back. “
